Through Doncaster Council's new cycling with Welcome to Yorkshire, Doncaster has been selected as a host town for the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire on the 3 and 4 May 2018. Doncaster has also been selected to host a stage start of the UCI World Racing Championships in September 2019 which is a major cycling event second only to the Tour de France.
