For more than a year Schofield Street and the
surrounding area has been subject to significant bouts of ASB,
criminal activity and gang lead behavior. The streets in question
are of mixed tenure, but are predominantly private rented and the
area in general is extremely run down and unsightly in places.
Schofield Park is positioned adjacent to Schofield Street. The
park, in particular the play area, has been badly damaged over
previous years, which has left much of the apparatus dilapidated
and unfit for either use or repair.
Following a multiagency approach and a significant amount of
resources the ASB, and other ASB associated activities have
improved greatly, this is partly due to many of the gang leaders
being on remand or imprisoned. A further success in the fight
against crime and ASB in the area is a CCTV camera which has been
located and captures most of the area of Schofield
Street.
To spend £43,000 on replacing existing
apparatus and introducing two additional pieces of apparatus at the
same time.
A breakdown of costs is shown below:
Replacement of existing play apparatus and associated works.
Estimated cost is £17,975.
Installation of two additional pieces of apparatus and associated
works. Estimated cost is £14,114.
A linear meter of palisade fencing will be installed to ensure the
park is safe from vehicles that currently access on to the park.
Estimated cost is £7,000.
Plus a 10% contingency of £3,900.
The money will come from two section 106 accounts, ring fenced for
the improvement of Public Open Space within the Mexborough ward.
The section 106 accounts both of which are not time restricted and
are not area specific.
Option 1 - Do nothing will result in not
utilizing Section 106 money and the park will remain the
same.
Option 2 - The preferred option is to utilise the Section 106 money
to improve the parks play equipment. This will benefit the local
young people and hopefully reduce Anti-Social Behaviour and improve
the community's environment.
